The Nepal Red Cross Society has voted to pay a monthly "salary" to a wounded stray dog that has taken on the job of guarding its office. The dog had turned up at the organisation's premises last month and remained there ever since, barking at any stranger..The employees tried to scare away the dog but it did not leave the place. The dog has been guarding the office at nights and not allowing people except the employees to enter, employees at the office.
Man Bahadur Budhathoki, president of the Damak sub-branch said, "Meeting of the working committee decided to provide the cash as an allowance," The dog will now get a monthly salary of Rs 1,500.(app. US$ 14). The remuneration would be spent on food, sanitation and treatment. From the cash, the dog would get rice and milk on daily basis and meat twice a week.
