The Covid pandemic has paralysed a lot of people world-wide due to lockdown restrictions that were introduced in many countries across the globe. People now resort to home entertainment but research has shown that people prefer entertainment outside their homes. Traditional movie houses have become ‘white elephants’ with little to no audience in this pandemic challenged world.
Business Opportunity
The fact remains that people are social beings. The opportunity is to establish drive inns which will enable people to watch movies from the comfort of their cars. The drive inn will have designated parking lots which are equipped with good sound speakers for each vehicle. Each person stays in their own vehicle and watches the movie from there. This will enable people to keep social distance and at the same time be entertained as desired.
Benefits
People are able to get entertainment in a safe environment
People leave their homes for refreshment
Specific revenue streams:
1. High brand equity of the first mover and early adopters
2. Sale of video, sound and lighting equipment to drive inns
Thank you for your questions which I am glad to address in the following manner:
Point 1: Each car will indeed have an option to select whichever movie they want from the options available at the point of booking. This was not possible with the traditional drive inns whereby all audiences would watch the same movie. The opportunity that the pandemic brings is to avail an offering which was previously only available at inhouse movies.
Point 2: The start time will be fixed. There is an excitement that is created when people plan to catch a movie at a specified time! From a business perspective, order is required for planning purposes.
Point 3: Mobile speakers will be designated per vehicle. Once an audience parks their vehicle; they have to uplift the speaker from it's holder and place it inside the vehicle. Once inside the vehicle, each person will have to plug in their ear/head phones, tune in and enjoy the movie.
The viability of this business model seems challenging considering competition from content providers viz. NETFLIX, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Hulu etc.
